0. Overview

In this post, our aim is to create a VM runs a Mac os for your lab environment.

Please note that you need a mac os I mean you literaliy need a physical mac devices to run a VM which run another mac os..

I thought the mac os never have been provide a their installer like iso but somehow I have struggled to troubleshoot mac devices for some reason, I think I’ve been wrong!

So, this post will let you led how to create a VM runs mac os.

  1. Download UTM application
  2. Download IPSW
  3. Create VM

1. Download UTM application

Go to the link to get the UTM for mac. https://mac.getutm.app/

After installation, you may encounter this step and need to decide the options. Select “Virtualise” to proceed.

Select “MacOS” obviously. image

Select the RAM whatever you want. image

And now, here is a thing to download IPSW which is similar with the iso or installer for the apple environment. image

2. Download IPSW

Go to the folowing link below.

https://ipsw.me/

Select “Mac” image

In this step, I selected MacBook Pro (M1). image

And I went 15.6 and download to avoid the crash. image

3. Create VM

Back to the last step of the UTM, set the IPSW and give storage mount it. image

You’re all set to boot the VM. image
